Amuse’s core vision of sustainability in manufacturing is not a mere statement. For every part manufactured in our facility, we care about the carbon footprint it leaves and innovative ways of reducing them.

 

All we know is that plastics cannot be eliminated. We do agree that plastic is not environmentally friendly when it is not adequately recycled or reprocessed.  And in most cases, trying to replace plastics with alternative materials significantly increases carbon footprint. How? During manufacturing of alternative materials, factors including production of raw material, logistics, and scraps contribute to the carbon footprint in the Life cycle.

 

We certainly understand the impacts of a carbon footprint on climate change and how quickly we need to scale the green solutions for a sustainable and eco-friendly future.

 

What is our strategy to low carbon footprint?

Our solution is simple – to control the key parameters of the plastic manufacturing process.

We know raw material (RM) and energy used creates the products and the by-products produced. Optimal usage of RM and energy will ensure a significant drop in the carbon footprint in the manufacturing process (Cradle to gate). What is more? We observed indirect positive implications such as low fuel consumption, lightweight, performance, etc., (Cradle to grave)

 

All told, figuring out the optimal process to achieve sustainability is not as easy as we think. Thus, we simplified and developed the whole data system into a simple Amuse Index (AI) metric. What is an Amuse Index?  Amuse Index is a comprehensive ratio that takes RM input and output, Energy input and output into consideration to help leverage for achieving a low carbon footprint. 

 

Custom plastic parts are created using a mix of recycled and virgin materials. By this, we mean that the part you purchase is made of recycled plastic or new material that has been formed into a shape and then cured to form a solid object.


Our Farm : For a long time, We’ve always wanted to focus on achieving something with higher productivity at a lesser cost. For us, it was like connecting the dots. With better technology and cost-cutting techniques, we strive towards Amuse Hinnova becoming the biggest Chennai vertical hydroponic farm. Presently, with the produce of 3.5 Tons in a small footprint area.

Our maximum electricity demand is fulfilled by our 12KW rooftop Solar PV installation. This leverage has helped us in meeting HVAC demand, machine operations, and other office utilities demand. Besides, the solar system is PLC controlled and could vary controls over off-grid and on-grid based on demands.

Does this mean we have clean energy resources to achieve sustainability? To an extent yes, because when you consider the life cycle of solar panels it’s logistic while installation. It consumes and emits a degree of CO2 equivalent. Amortization will ensure the CO2 equivalent consumption is significantly less than leveraging electricity from fossil fuels.

Because of various manufacturability constraints, many products end with huge materials than they needed. With our expertise, we sit with a cross-functional application team aimed at reducing RM at the source without affecting the performance. In this way, we have significant cost savings over direct material costs. Also, this practice proportionally cuts waste in the end.

–        We reprocess by grinding the huge portions of RM waste to feed them with plastic injection; this practice has been widely followed in the injection molding industry.

We use minimal water every time

 

Consistency and compounding is a powerful mantra. Water scarcity is real and it’s evident. Thus, we worked collaboratively with the Earth Fokus team for their sustainability and their product development. We felt and experimented with the products we developed.It’s just not us, a lot of industries like Google, Wipro, and Royal Enfield have implemented and have saved more than 85% of water annually and a cost of 70% contributing to 2 lakhs per Annum saved.
